ABS 3D printer filament (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a petroleum-derived thermoplastic. It may be recycled (if pulverized) and reused. However, it is a non-biodegradable product and is not as environmentally friendly as PLA. To avoid any negative impact on the environment, we encourage you deliver ABS waste to a recycling center.
ABS filament allows printing parts with high-impact resistance and has better heat resistance than PLA or PLA/PHA. ABS is a very commonly used plastic. Legos is a well-known plastic item made with ABS.
ABS should be printed in an open area with adequate ventilation. However, enclosing the printing area itself helps trap heat and reduce warping. Protect the printing area from direct airflows such as air conditioning vents or windows. Parts printed with MeltInk ABS filament have a matte finish and crisp colors. ABS can be sanded more readily than PLA and can also be smoothed using acetone vapor.
