Since 2012 it’s been an annual tradition for GrabCAD to hold the Golden Gear Awards as a way of recognizing top contributors in the Community. These are people who, over the past year, embodied Community values, shared their amazing work and in the process, helped change the way people make things. As part of this celebration, members design trophies in the Trophy Challenge and we 3D print the winner for Golden Gear recipients. We want to thank each and every member who for every tutorial, comment, and CAD model shared, and for making GrabCAD the Community the place it is.
Most downloaded: Jarde Dummy by Jari Ikonen
This model does a great job at showing the impact that one model can have in the Community. The Jarde Dummy has been downloaded more than 4,500 times and has likely been used to help design dozens of other products. This is an amazing accomplishment and testament to Jari Ikonen’s work.
Most liked: Lamborghini Aventador LP700 by Ali Zahi
The 'most liked' category is one of my favorites, because it shows just how much the members appreciate each other's work. This Lamborghini Aventador LP 700 is a fantastic automotive model and a great example of the work that Ali Zahi produces.
Most discussed: Stratocaster Guitar Final by John Fall
The community has been buzzing over this guitar model. It has 148 comments and rising, making it the most discussed model in the Community in 2015. And why not? There was a lot to talk about! Like the fantastic detail work and shining chrome knobs.
Top collaborative model: PINKI sportbike conceptdesign by CGP Design
There's no "I" in team, especially with a project as big as this one! The top collaborative model highlights the best model comprised from a group effort. With more than 2,000 parts this was no small project for the CGP Design team of Adi Pandzic, Adis Muminovic & Vahid Avdic. This model took over a year and a half to complete, and came out spectacular.
Top "pay it forward" tutorial: Logitech m185 (Anim + Tutorial) by Петар Трлајић
Tutorials are a great way to learn more about CAD software, prototyping and much more. Given the importance of learning, we wanted to award the member whose tutorial had the most impact on the community. Петар Трлајић (Petar) is a back-to-back Golden Gear Winner for this category and rightfully so. If your looking to increase your knowledge in CAD I suggest you check out his profile.
Top 3D printable model: Robot gripper for 3D printing by Charles (@MetalDesigner)
3D printing is changing the way we make things, by reducing costs and saving time. The 'Robot Gripper’ model does a great job of demonstrating the power of this rapidly growing manufacturing technology.
Top manufacturing or construction model: CAT 785C mining truck by Suren RK
This 785C Mining Cat model accurately captures the power and durability of this construction machine. A monstrous tool with a bed the size of a swimming pool, this truck's ready to help bore through any mine, no matter what the material.
Top transportation model: Dirt Force motorcycles DHX Moto 2.0 by Jonathan
Jonathan’s custom built motorcycle demonstrates an immense amount of creativity and hard work. Through modeling and building this motorcycle, he really embodied the GrabCAD spirit and successfully tackled an amazing project. Bonus points for using 3D printed parts!
Top consumer model: Table lamp (cutting out a fret saw) by Inspire
Inspire’s unique take on an everyday household item earned it the "Top Consumer Model” Golden Gear Award. The intricate patterns are not something you see often in a table lamp, and that outside the box thinking helped this model stand out.
Top education model: QRM Quad Rotor Mini by Dennis Martens
This is a fantastic CAD project for learning all things engineering. Dennis not only modeled quadcopter but he also built it! With a list of what you need to complete the project and a instructional video, it couldn't be any easier to get started on your own, making this the "Top Education Model".
